NEW LOCATIONS

In addition to the current operating locations in IX.br, the project is in the process of identifying new locations. See the map of the locations under study.

All IX.br the locations are isolated from the others, and each location consists of a set of at least one (1), Point of Interconnection (PIX).

In the current model of a location of IX.br, the adopted network structure uses a star topology. With pixes peripherals connected to the Central PIX for at least one (1) pair of dark fiber, ideally, be made available over a pair of dark optical fibers with different paths for redundancy (ring).

A necessary condition, but not sufficient to create a new location, is that there is at least 3 Autonomous Systems (AS) in the region interested in participating. Entities that are not AS but have potential and interest in being, may also be considered in the new location of the application process. See the map of the geographic distribution of AS in Brazil

Defined as a region, the city itself where a new location of IX.br will be deployed, as well as the neighboring towns, from which interested AS may use own transport infrastructure, or contracted, but in both cases with lower cost to long distance circuits. Usually we consider a distance of approximately 80KM in optical fiber and 200 km, with radio, around the Central PIX as area of the region being considered.

Usually a new location begins with one (1) PIX, but is not prohibited the possibility of starting with more than 1 PIX, if there is a reason for this

The entity that is hosting the central / initial PIX, regardless of whether or not commercial purpose, shall propose to operate neutrally and preferably no charge for connections of participants to the IX.br structure, provided they meet the standards adopted.

For the implementation of a PIX, that entity must provide data center infrastructure (rack space 19 ", electricity, air conditioning, physical security and local operating hands), and the NIC.br will supply the equipment needed (switches, servers, etc.) as well as its operation, maintenance and support.

The definition of a place to house a PIX IX.br, especially the initial, is probably the most critical point of the feasibility analysis process to implement a new location. Extra features infrastructure such as electric power supply systems (UPS, generator, etc.), availability of optical fibers, etc. are points that can assist in the site selection process.

Facilities for new AS connections in the initial PIX, as the presence of AS in the same building, top availability of building to receive antennas of new participants, Line-of-sight propagation for different points of region, availability of shaft in the building to pass cabling, physical position of the building in relation fibers Optical available in the area, etc. are important points for selecting a location to house the PIX, as well as the process new location deployment feasibility analysis.

There may be more than one application for the same new location of IX.br but we recommend that the AS, and those entities interested in become an AS at the region, to interact and whenever possible to submit a single application more consistent.
